Transcripts of full meetings of the council.

Good morning, Council President Clarke, Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez, and all members of the City Council. Greetings from St. Veronica's Church. And I would like, first of all, to thank Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez for inviting me to be here this morning, and we will invoke his assistance for the most important work that the people of Philadelphia has entrusted to you.

Today it comes to my mind some beautiful words of Pope Francis with whom I am related somehow. I am also a native from Argentina. And speaking about your wonderful work, Pope said, Politics remain a great vocation and one of the highest forms of love. I beg the Lord to grant us more politicians who aren't disturbed by the state of society, the people, and the lives of the poor. It is vital that government leaders and financial leaders take heed on working to ensure that all citizens have dignified work, education, and healthcare. Why not turn to God and ask him to inspire the plans, and this is what we do today. Let us pray.

Oh, Lord, you have said with your words and shown with your example that the one who has any leadership among his or her brothers and sisters must place himself or herself at the service of others.

Assist all the honorable members of this City Council to be true servants of your people; that they may find in their work an opportunity to spread the goodness and kindness that you have for each one of us; that they may have that wisdom to look for the goodness and happiness of all, especially of those who are less fortunate and are working for a gesture of love; that they may have the strength to work for this Council without hesitation and fear.

Oh, Lord, we know that our actions seem to be like a simple drop of water in the midst of an ocean of needs. However, we also know that with your help, troubled water can be turned into a rain of blessings.

Oh, Lord, we ask of all of these things with great confidence because we know that our prayer is already your blessing.

Amen.
